Color recognition is an important part of early childhood development and is often used in development milestone screening. Discerning between colors are one of the first ways that toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten children begin to categorize and describe what they see in their world. Noticing subtle attributes, such as color or shape, is a building block to reading and math. For example, when your child notices the similarities and differences in shapes, such as a square and a rectangle, they using the same skills needed to recognize the differences between letters, number and symbols.

This activity aids in recognizing 6 common colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple) by including colorful pony beads to sort into 6 matching colorful cups. The cups are adorable and the activity can be easily packed for learning on the go.

The cups are tiny. They are 1.25" tall and 1.25" wide. This makes this a perfect fine motor activity as well. Children need to use their pincer grasp to pick up the tiny beads and drop them into the little cups.

What they are learning WHILE having fun:
- Hand/Eye coordination - Being able to drop the tiny beads into the cups.
- Color recognition – Kids need to recognize the differences in the colors in order to place them in the correct cup.
- Fine motor - Practicing using fine motor pincer grasp in order to manipulate and pick up the beads. Builds hand muscles and dexterity which are essential for a proper pencil grasp.
